RACING TURKEYS? WHAT THE HECK?!?
HATCHING AN IDEA SO CRAZY, IT SUCCEEDS!
A crowd of three to four hundred fair-goers line the rails of fifty by thirty foot oval track anticipating the sound of the starter pistol. With a crisp pop the gun goes off, the chute opens and a dozen gangly gobblers tear from the gate; wings flapping, feathers flying, as another episode of the WILD WEST TURKEY STAMPEDE is off and running.
As people wipe hysterical tears of laughter from their eyes, they still can't believe what they are seeing. These turkeys are actually racing!
The twenty minute show featuring the worlds only racing turkeys offers plenty of belly laughs, a special appearance by a GIANT of a turkey, contests for kids and even a stunt mini-monster truck.
So how do you get turkeys to race? Well, you give them something to chase! Enter BIG RED, the biggest, baddest, coolest remote control monster truck to ever roll out of the shop! With a truck bed full of delicious turkey treats, BIG RED barrels around the track, swerving, spinning, dodging and sliding.
THE WILD WEST TURKEY STAMPEDE gives new meaning to the phrase; "fast food".
So who comes up with a crazy show like this? How in the world do you dream that up?
For Gil and Nancy Riegler, owners of the Oasis Camel Dairy in Ramona California,will tell you it willed itself into existence.
County Fair performing veterans, the Rieglers were asked to develop a turkey theme show for the California State Fair. They wanted something educational that would highlight the turkey's role in American agriculture while being a funny, engaging performance. While brainstorming ideas, Nancy hit on the basic premise... turkeys are funny when they run, so, lets train them to race!
Teaching the turkeys to race brought out a calling Gil never knew he had. Driving BIG RED at high speeds ahead of and often through a stampede of turkeys is no small feat. "Gil is the secret to the shows success" explains Nancy. "He is so good at driving that truck... he can race around at top speeds and stop that truck on a dime if a turkey suddenly jumps in front of it. That truck gives us the chills, spills and thrills making the show exhilarating... the turkeys just gallop along unharmed
Seamlessly blending tongue-in-cheek comedy with actual, factual information about agriculture and roll of California turkeys, all against the backdrop of a pennant flyin' miniature rodeo, the fledgling show hit the ground running!
